Lawyers may apply to WIRO to become Approved Legal Service Providers (ALSPs).
ALSPs are able to apply to WIRO for grants of funding so that injured workers may secure legal representation to pursue entitlements under the Workers Compensation Act 1987 or the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998.
To become an ALSP an Australian lawyer must have appropriate experience and hold a current practising certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW, the NSW Bar Association or interstate equivalent.
Lawyers must also agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set out in the agreement with WIRO, including compliance with practice standards and WIRO’s policies and administrative requirements.
The 'ALSP Approval and Practice Standards' below sets out the minimum standards for lawyers to obtain and retain approval from WIRO to receive grants of funding.
