Apply to become an Approved Lawyer

Lawyers may apply to WIRO to become Approved Lawyers.

Approved Lawyers are able to apply to WIRO for grants of funding so that injured workers may secure legal representation to pursue entitlements under the Workers Compensation Act 1987 or the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998.


To become an Approved Lawyer, an Australian lawyer must have appropriate experience and hold a current practicing certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW, the NSW Bar Association or interstate equivalent.

Lawyers must also agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set out in the agreement with WIRO, including compliance with practice standards and WIRO’s policies and administrative requirements.

The 'Approval Requirements for WIRO Approved Lawyers' below sets out the minimum standards for lawyers to obtain and retain approval from WIRO to receive grants of funding.

Change of details

If any of your details change, and particularly if you change firms, you should let WIRO know so that your details can be updated on our system and injured workers contact you using correct details.

As of 22 October 2019 notifications of details changes should be submitted via the Update Lawyer Details form.
